I have been thinking for the last couple of weeks that far too often Christmas is a negative experience for many folks! People are going to church at Christmastime and the Preacher’s going to get on them…about…Not giving enough mission offering…wasting their money on themselves…not keeping Christ in Christmas…and the people are going to go away morbid, depressed, blue, and feeling REALLY Guilty!
I heard a song again this week that is a ‘Christmas Classic.’
It’s kind of like:
• The ‘Norelco Santa’
• The Polar Bear Coke drinkers
• and ‘The Grinch that Stole Christmas.’
For years these ‘Classics’ have alerted us to the fact that Christmas time is here. The Song is really fun, and Brenda Lee makes ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ come alive! If you ask me, it’s a whole lot more in keeping with the spirit of what Christmas is all about than those negative, depressing, downer encounters we experience in pursuit of ‘Religious’ distinction! If there is anything that should be upbeat, fun, and joyous, it ought to be Church; especially at Christmas!
