The day I experienced the birth of my first grandson, my mind was suddenly flooded with memories of my own son's birth, which came 10 days past his due date! My morning began rather early that day - 2 a.m. to be exact! This was my first child, so the low back pain that woke me during the night was not necessarily indicative of labor in my opinion.
It seems as though everyone has a story to tell about sibling rivalry! I know that juice and snack amounts were faithfully examined by the younger of our two children when they were small; and, when they became teens, certain privileges were compared and held to the bar of equality. If any drop of preferential treatment was detected, there was a swift and adamant declaration of injustice! Kids . . .
Didn't you absolutely hate it when your teacher began class with the words, "pop quiz"? Your heart would begin pounding as you reached for your paper; your hands would feel clammy as they gripped your pen; and your stomach would start churning as thoughts of impending doom filled your mind.
"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there." Psalm 139:7-8
It seems David was familiar with the old adage: You can run, but you can't hide. In spite of the truth of this statement, we all give it our best shot anyway. Adam and Eve tried it first when they heard God's footsteps coming near, attempting to hide behind fig leaves and then among the trees of the garden.
Life is constantly bringing challenges and an occasional crisis situation that may sometimes appear insurmountable, especially in these days. And, for those who have made the choice to wholeheartedly follow God, there will be the additional challenges of new territory to conquer as He forces us to stretch beyond the nice cocoon we've made for ourselves!
